  100. 1.  WHAT IS NewsMonger?

  102. 1.1 Introducing NewsMonger
  103.   TechSmith CorporationÆs NewsMonger agent for Microsoft Windows 95 &
  104.   NT provides for complete monitoring of the InternetÆs largest
  105.   source of new information, the USENET news service.  NewsMonger
  106.   provides for multiple searches, scheduling and e-mail notification
  107.   as  postings matching your criteria are discovered.

  109.   While dozens of programs are available to search and catalog web
  110.   sites, TechSmithÆs NewsMonger is the first full-featured commercial
  111.   agent to focus on the InternetÆs USENET news service.  NewsMonger
  112.   works with the AltaVista search engine to provide a complete audit
  113.   of the contents of all newsgroups.  Of course, your search criteria
  114.   can limit matches to specified newsgroups or exclude postings to
  115.   inappropriate newsgroups.  After creating and scheduling your
  116.   searches, you can continue with your other tasks -- NewsMonger will
  117.   notify you or the appropriate person when a message meeting your
  118.   criteria is discovered.

  168.   Included in the NewsMonger archive file are the following files:

  175. 3.2 Installation Instructions
  176.  
  177.   The NewsMonger installation program SETUP.EXE is a Microsoft Windows
  178.   application.  You must have Windows NT or Windows 95 installed
  179.   prior to installing NewsMonger.  To install NewsMonger, perform the
  180.   following steps:
  181.  
  182.   1. Start Windows, if you haven't already done so.
  183.  
  184.   2. Insert the NewsMonger diskette into a floppy drive.
  185.  
  186.   For Windows 95 users:
  187.  
  188.   3. From the Start menu, select Run
  189.  
  190.   For Windows NT users:
  191.  
  192.   3. From the Program Manager menu bar, choose File, and select Run
  193.      from the drop down menu.
  194.  
  195.   For all users:
  196.  
  197.   4. In the dialog box, enter:
  198.           a:\setup
  199.      (If you are installing NewsMonger from a diskette drive other
  200.      than the A drive, you will need to change the drive letter in the
  201.      command line above.)

  203.   5. Click on the OK button.

  205.   6. Follow the instructions given on the installation screens.

  207. 3.3  Uninstall Instructions
  208.  
  209.   If after installing NewsMonger, you find it necessary to
  210.   remove the software from your computer, perform the following steps:
  211.  
  212.   Uninstall instructions for Windows 95
  213.  
  214.   1. Run the Windows 95 Control Panel
  215.  
  216.   2. Open the Add/Remove Programs applet from Control Panel.
  217.  
  218.   3. Select NewsMonger from the list of applications that can
  219.      uninstalled by Windows.
  220.  
  221.   4. Click on the Add/Remove button to uninstall NewsMonger.

  225.   1. Open the NewsMonger program group from Program Manager.

  227.   2. Double-click on the Uninstall NewsMonger Icon

  232. 4.  STARTING NewsMonger
  233. ----------------------------------------------------------------------
  234.   Normally, NewsMonger should be run in the background to make use of
  235.   its search scheduling capabilities.  This is easily accomplished by 
  236.   selecting the option to "Start NewsMonger when Windows starts" at
  237.   the end of NewsMonger installation.  This will add NewsMonger to the
  238.   Windows Startup group, causing it ot be executed when Windows is 
  239.   started.  This option is of most value if you have a permanent 
  240.   Internet connection.
  241.  
  242.   To manually start NewsMonger:
  243.  
  244.   In Windows 95 or NT 4.0, select the Start Menu and navigate to 
  245.   Programs->NewsMonger. Highlight the NewsMonger item and release 
  246.   the mouse button.
  247.   
  248.   In Windows NT 3.51, double-click on the NewsMonger icon in the 
  249.   group you selected to put NewsMonger in during installation.

  256.   NewsMonger's on-line Help system is compatible with the Windows
  257.   Help subsystems.  The NewsMonger Help file contains all of the
  258.   information you'll need to use NewsMonger.

  260.   To access NewsMonger Help, select Help from the NewsMonger menu bar,
  261.   then Help Index from the drop-down menu.

  263.   When you register NewsMonger, you will receive a software key that
  264.   will disable the evaluation time-limit and remove all registration

  341. 8.1 Registration Instructions

  343.   1.  Select the NewsMonger program's Help menu.
  344.  
  345.   2.  Select How to Register from the menu.
  346.  
  347.   3.  Click on the Registration Form button.  Enter your registration
  348.       information in the fields provided.
  349.  
  350.       NOTE: You must specify a name or company name when you register.
  351.             Your software key will be personalized for that name
  352.             ONLY.  Your key will NOT work if you change this name
  353.             after you have sent in your registration.

  355.   4.  When you are finished, select OK. This will create a text file
  356.       called REGISTER.TXT in the NewsMonger default directory. This is
  357.       your registration and order form.  It includes a price sheet and
  358.       your Product ID number.

  360.   5.  Windows Notepad will now open REGISTER.TXT automatically,
  361.       allowing you to edit and or print the registration form.  While
  362.       you are editing, please complete any blank items, including
  363.       quantities, totals, and payment information. DO NOT EDIT THE
  364.       PRODUCT ID NUMBER.

  366.       NOTE: shipping charges are only applicable to diskette orders.

  368.   6.  Return the registration form, with payment, to TechSmith
  369.       Corporation by any of the methods described on the form.  Upon
  370.       receipt of your order, TechSmith will generate your diskette or
